Photography- Freaky images

10 Freaky images

In this lesson we had to research 10 freaky images online and write why we like them and what makes them freaky and also we narrowed down to 5 images that we could re-create ourselves.

http://www.blankexit.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/3-Big-mouth-girl-is-hungry.jpg
I find this image freaky because she does not have any eyes or a nose, she only has a large mouth on her face which makes it creepy. I think this image was created on photoshop by using the clone tool to clone her mouth on her face and then making the mouth bigger. The location was probably a dining room.

This is the first image out of five I could re-create myself in my photography lesson.

http://media.poststats.com/photo?photoID=5281
I like this image because it is unusual and the dog has a face of a human. I think this image was created on photoshop using the pen tool to cut around the eyes and the mouth of a picture of a person and the location is outside.

This is the second image I could re-create using photoshop as I could shoot some images of my dog at home, and then shoot some images of someone in my class.

http://i.imgur.com/cz5TthP.jpg

I like this image because the boy is emotion less with a dog face on his hair. This image was probably created by using the pen tool on photoshop to cut around a face of a dog and then added on the boys head. I think this in school on school picture day.

http://wafishaman.com/sites/default/files/images/shark%20cat.jpg

I like this image because it is unusual and creepy as cats are supposed to be cute and this person made it look freaky. I think that the cloning tool was used for this image as they cloned the cats face on to the sharks face. The location of this image is the sea.
http://vrf.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/02-Guinea-Lion.jpg

I find this image interesting because it look real which means the photo-shopping was done very well. I think the cloning tool is used here as well or the pen tool to put the guinea pigs face on the lions face and then blended in so it looks real.
http://img.marocurl.com/2015/06/14/woman-with-dog-face-l-e3104c823b72b53f.jpg

I find this image interesting because the woman was probably a model who was posing but someone changed it and put a dogs mouth on it which looks strange.

http://images4.fanpop.com/image/photos/19800000/Freaky-feet-tribro3s-stuff-19867238-400-325.jpg
I like this image because it looks freaky and strange and also it would be easy to re-create.
https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4105/4956311140_9408e28b06_n.jpg

This is the third image I could re-create in my lesson as I could shoot some pictures of someones feet and face and then cut out the eyes and mouth and put it on the soles of the feet.

I like this image because it is simple but freaky and would be also simple to re-create.

This is the fourth image I think I could re-create in my photography lesson.

https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/736x/8b/dd/63/8bdd63f4d4328432fe9c7d5f608493f4.jpg

This image is strange and freaky and it looks real which means the image was photo-shopped well using tools such as the pen tool to cut out the face of the rooster.

https://thoughtcatalog.files.wordpress.com/2013/09/shutterstock_127509986.jpg?w=584&h=584

I like this image because it is freaky and dark and the man looks creepy.

This is the fifth image I could re-create  in my photography lesson as I could shoot some images of someone in my class and then use photoshop to make the person black and white and then darken their eyes and then the background.

Video production- Planning our FreakorUnique advert (Proposal)

Our own freaky advert

In our groups we had to plan our own advert and we decided we are going to advertise a chocolate bar. The name of your chocolate bar will be 'Monsters' and our slogan is going to be "No more Monsters" and "A bar a day keeps the monsters away."

We are going to design our own package with the name and our slogan on it by using photoshop and we are going to use this package and put it on a regular chocolate bar. Our location will be the spiral stair case at the college. We think this is a good location to film our advert because the stair case is freaky and no one goes there which means there will not be anyone disturbing us when we film and we will have the space to ourselves. There might be a few people walking by but this will not be a major problem.

We are going to film the advert in black and white but the ending will be in colour and there will be a voice over saying our second slogan at the end and the advert will last for about 20-30 seconds which will include different camera shots such as close up, point of view, wide shot, cut-in and over-the-shoulder shot. We will also include different sounds such as horror and dramatic music to go with our advert which will give it a creepier effect. We are going to have dramatic and suspenseful music which will intrigue our target audience and the video effect will be in black and white which will give it a horror theme to the advertisement.

Our advert starts off with a woman who is running down the staircase, panting, trying to get away from a monster who is chasing her. While she tries to escape she gets to a dead end. She is terrified of the monster who is trying to get her. She decides to hit the monster with her bag to defend herself and the monster falls to the ground. Then the chocolate bar falls out of her bag, she eats it, and says the slogan "A bar a day keeps the monsters away". After that the camera will be pointing at the chocolate bar and there will be a voice over saying "No more Monsters".

All three of us have different roles as I have the role of the woman who is running away, Callum is the monster who is chasing the woman, and April is filming the scenes. I will be wearing casual clothing while Callum will be wearing baggy clothes with a monster mask on his face.

Our target audience will be 12 year old kids or anyone who enjoys chocolate and horror things.

What will make this advert freaky will be the dramatic music, black & white effect, and the creepy stair case. I think we will do well on this freaky advert and that we have planned it well and I hope it works.

Our shots:

  • Point of view shot
  • Over the shoulder shot
  • Wide shot
  • Close up
  • Mid shot

These are the different shots we are going to do when filming our advert.

Advertising- Freaky TV Adverts

Freaky TV Adverts

In today's lesson we were split into groups of 3-4 and I'm with Callum and April. In our groups we had to share our skills and discuss what we are good at and what we are not good at.

Callum is good at handling cameras and he is good at acting as he is confident talking in front of a camera. He is also good at drawing which could help us design logos and other things and Callum can also give ideas to create our advert and create a story.

April is good at handling a camera and is good at filming as well as giving ideas. She does not like talking in front of a camera or acting which means she could do the filming while me and Callum act.

I am good at drawing which means I could help Callum design things such as a logo for our advert. I'm also good at giving ideas and could help create our advert and I am good at using a camera as I know how to do different shots and I can act. What I do not like doing is acting in front of a camera because I am shy and I am not confident.

What we had to do was research 3 freaky TV adverts which could give us ideas on how to create our own advert.

New Cadbury's eyebrow dance:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTa1nbeLWOA

The tempo of this advert was fast and the music sounded happy. There were also diegetic sounds such as the girl creating music using a balloon which we could see, and the boy played music on his wrist watch. There was also a non-diegetic sound which was a phone ringing at the beginning which we could not see.

What I find freaky about this advert is that the kids were moving both of their eyebrows while staring into the camera which made it uncomfortable to watch. Also the camera shots made it freaky as there were many close ups as they were moving their eyebrows.

Phones 4 U:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2oL_gXECtg

In this advert, the tempo was slow and the music was freaky. There were many diegetic sounds included such as the sound of the woman's high heels, the woman screaming, as well as the little girl speaking. There was one non diegetic sound which was the intense and scary music in the background.

What I found freaky about this advert was the creepy music and the dark car park which was where it took place and also the creepy little girl made the advert freaky.

The Drench puzzle:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yuzgmemAhA

In this advert the tempo was slow and there were slow minor keys during the advert. There were a few diegetic sounds such as the sounds of people walking and the music in the mans earphones. Also there were different camera shots included in this such as close up which made the advert freaky as the man was staring at the camera. What else made this freaky was the puzzle head the man had which was very unusual.

Graphics- Simple Banner

My Simple Banner:

In this lesson I made a simple banner which I created by looking at step by step instructions on moodle.

First I had to make a rectangle by using the shape tool and then use the anchor tool, press shift, and bend the rectangle inwards on both sides. After that I made a square also using the shape tool but I had to hold shift to create a square instead of a rectangle.

Then I used the direct tool, selected a corner of the square, then pressed the back space to crop half the square, making it into a triangle. I coped the triangle to make another one to create the banner.

After that I had to change the colour of the triangles so I double clicked on the layer, selected gradient, and then set it to -90 degrees which created a shadow on the triangles. Then I had to flip the triangles horizontally. I did this by selecting edit, then pressing transform, then flip horizontal. After I did this, I placed both triangles below the rectangle, making it look like a banner.

The I selected text box tool to add a text on the banner. I wrote 'Freak' and added an image of a three eyed cat that I created in the previous lesson. Then the last thing I did was use paint bucket to make the blue and pink background and used a bubbly pattern to go with it.

Graphics- Ghostly images

Ghostly images

In our photoshop lesson we had to create our own ghostly images by finding a creepy background and then insert pictures of people and then making them look like ghosts.

For my first image I chose a creepy house in the woods for my background and the first ghost is a little girl in the corner and the second one is a cowboy next to the tree.

To create these ghosts I had to use the pen tool to crop around the people, which lets you crop around the image and delete what you do not need. Then I had to desaturate the cropped image of the people, which makes them black and white, and after that I blurred them to 12.5. I had to be careful not to blur them too much as it would make them too blurry which would not look good. The last thing I had to do was fade the images to 50% to make them almost invisible just like a ghost.

I created three images and I had to repeat the steps but use a different background and different people.

For the second image my background was a scary prison area and the ghosts were of a woman in a wedding dress along with a clown.

For my third image I used a creepy room as my background and a man in a suit at the back and a teenage girl at the front as my ghosts.

What I found difficult about this was using the pen tool to crop around the people because I need to do this carefully and slowly but I end up not getting rid of of what I do not need and then I have to undo and start again.

What I like about these images is that I successfully made them look ghostly and creepy and I also like my background choices which are also creepy and goes well with the ghosts.

In this lesson I learned how to blur images correctly and how to make them black and white, making them look like ghosts.

Advertising- Be'RĂ©al

Creating our own poster

For this lesson we had to go on a website which told us what companies to avoid and the reason to avoid them which we had to research about and then create our own poster of the company.
http://www.ethical.org.au/3.4.2/get-informed/boycotts-criticisms/

I chose the company L'Oreal which is a make up company that test products on animals such as rabbits. They do this to check if their products are safe to use and if it will not cause irritation to skin. I believe this is wrong and cruel as animals should not be used as testing products and should not go through the pain.

So I made a poster which doesn't say L'OrĂ©al, but instead it says Be'RĂ©al which is to symbolize the fact that they use too many chemicals to create their own products which is why they test it to check if it is safe which makes Be'RĂ©al mean to be real with their products.

After I drew this, I re-created this by using photoshop.
I used the type tool to write the logo and I copied and
pasted the rabbit, lipstick, and mascara on to the page.

Video production- Different camera shots in Wasp

"Wasp" By Andrea Arnold

In this lesson we watched a short film called "Wasp" by Andrea Arnold on Vimeo. https://vimeo.com/108906081

10 camera shots that are used in the film:

Close up-

Mid shot-

Weather shot-

Cut away-

Cut in-

Wide shot-

Over the shoulder shot-

Very wide shot-

Extreme close up-

Medium close up-

3 diegetic sounds and 3 non diegetic sounds used:

Diegetic:

  • Toy guitar
  • Voices of characters
  • Car noises
Non diegetic:
  • Baby crying
  • Music

Panasonic HDC 900 camera

It costs £900
32GB built-in memory
3D recording
Touch screen
35mm wide-angle lens
20x zoom

White balance:

White balance removes unrealistic colours in your image and makes the image warmer or cooler depending on the sort of light you are shooting in as the colour of the light will affect the colours in the photograph.

Rule of thirds:

When using the rule of thirds to your image, it makes the image more pleasing because its subjects and sections are composed along imaginary lines which divides the image in thirds vertically and horizontally.

Advertising- Sounds in adverts

Sounds in adverts

Diagetic sounds are the sounds you can see such as someone driving a car in an advert as you can see the sound happening where as non diagetic sounds are the sound you can hear, but can't see such as a voice over or music. Tempo is the speed of the music is played. For example, if the music is slow, then the tempo is slow, if the music is fast, it means the tempo is fast.

Car (Nissan):
  • Involves action
  • Fast tempo
  • Looks like a movie
  • Intimidating music at the beginning
In this advert there were diagetic sounds such as the zip line sound, the man taking the car keys, and the sound of the car being driven which we could hear and see. There were also non diagetic sounds such as the music in the background and voice over in the advert.

The tempo in this adverts was fast which suits it well because the advert was made to look like a spy/action movie. This advert is aimed at adult who like buying cars.

Make up:
  • Happy
  • Voice over
  • Slow tempo (music)
In this advert there were non diagetic sounds as you could hear a voice talking but you could not see the person in the advert. The tempo was slow but happy which shows that having a slow tempo in an advert does not mean it has to be sad.

Sofa(DFS):
  • Fast beat
  • Happy
  • Instruments
  • Audience is adults
There were no diagetic sounds used in this advert, but there were non diagetic sounds such as a voice over and instruments in the background which had a fast tempo. This advert is targeted to adults as they are the ones who buy sofas.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=giTVmIZ1J4o

Chocolate(Cadburys):
  • Slow tempo
  • Happy
  • Beginning is calm
  • Drums (diegetic sound)
At the beginning of the advert the tempo was slow and calm but happy. There were drums playing in the advert which was a diagetic sound because you could see the gorilla play the drums in the video. This is aimed at anyone who likes chocolate and entertaining things.

Photography- Functions of a camera

Photography: Functions of a camera

In this lesson we had to draw different parts of a camera. We had to draw the front elevation, Rear elevation, and the top elevation of a camera. When we did this we had to label parts of the camera and had to discuss as a class what they are used for.

Front elevation

Top elevation
What I learned about the front elevation was how to take a picture properly. You have to half press the shutter button to focus the camera to the object you are taking a picture of.

If you want to take a picture of a fast moving object such as a fast moving car, you can hold the shutter button half way, when the car gets close, you take the picture. This gets the camera ready to take the picture. This only works right if you put the camera on auto mode because if using the other modes, the image will be blurry.

I learned about the different shooting modes on the top elevation.

P= Program
A= Aperture
S= Speed
M= Manual

Also I learned that the lens hood protects the lens from being scratched, damaged or wet. This will protect it if you are taking pictures in the rain.

Rear elevation

What I learned about the rear elevation was how to use the view finder and why you use it. The viewfinder does not blur the image and gets the full shot of the image, whereas the lcd crops it out. You can use the lcd if you are taking an image of still life such as a flower and the viewfinder if you are taking a picture of a view such as mountains.

Graphics- Using tools in photoshop

Photoshop

In this lesson we were looking at photoshop and how to use different tools to create images such as a three eyed cat. I did this by using the cloning tool to copy the original eye and drawing it on its forehead. What makes this creepy is that the cat has three eyes, making
it look unusual and making it look like an alien cat which is the reason why I like it.

The other task we did was photo shopping a celebrity by taking parts of their face and cloning it somewhere else on their face to make them creepy and unusual. I chose Barack Obama and used the cloning tool to put his eyebrows below his nose, making it look like a mustache. Also I took his eye and his lips and cloned it on his forehead.

My third image was Miley Cyrus with her mouth and eyes on her forehead and cat ears on her head. I found it difficult to clone cat ears on her head because I had to be careful to do it right, otherwise I would have to start again which I had to do many times. I believe this is my best photo shopped image and I am proud of it because the ears on her head look real.

My last image was a meerkats head photo-shopped on to a man in a suit. For this image I had to use the pencil tool to draw around the meerkats head and then copy the head to the image of the mans body. I cropped out the mans head and placed the meerkats head there instead.

In this lesson I learned how to use tools such as the pencil tool which is used to cut out specific things you need from an image and adding it to a different one. Also, I learned how to use the cloning tool which requires you to copy something by selecting the cloning tool and pressing Alt to copy the image, such a an eye, and drawing it somewhere else. I learned how to crop an image to get a specific bit you want and how to get rid of things on the picture you dont need.

What I found difficult was taking something from an image and putting it on a different image such as the meerkat in the suit. It took me a while to make this as I got confused and had to restart several times.

Advertising- FreakorUnique images

FreakorUnique Images

The first image is Suicide Mouse which was created by Gerardo Samuel Meduano Flores who is a male and lives in Mexico. This artist mostly draws cartoons and comics and posts them online.
http://sammk95.deviantart.com/art/Suicide-mouse-493629431

These images have inspired me because it shows me different freaky artwork which have deeper meaning to them as well as a lot of emotion. These could influence my advert by giving me ideas on how to make my advert creepy and freaky.

This second image is called Take off your mask which was created by Marcus.
https://www.pinterest.com/pin/509891989034639812/

I find this image interesting because it is freaky and it is strange as the man is taking his face off and making it look like a mask. Also this image is dark and creepy.

Third image is called Sir? Which was created by Max who is from Sweden.

https://www.pinterest.com/pin/301037556320518743

I like this image because it is very creepy and disturbing as it does not have eyes and a nose and the teeth look big and sharp.

This fourth image is called Freaky Face Spiral and it was created by Alex Lovelle, also know as Slaughterose who is from US and mostly draws horror images.
http://slaughterose.deviantart.com/art/Freaky-Face-Spiral-270940119
Freaky Face Spiral

I like this image because the art work is freaky and its face is repeated several times inside its mouth in a spiral and the eyes look scary and also the colours used in this image makes it look creepier.

Video production- My practical lesson

Different Directors

At the beginning of the lesson we were had to brainstorm different male directors and different female directors and research 1 movie they they made.

I wrote directors such as Angelina Jolie who is a female director as the directed a movie called Unbroken.

Another director I wrote down was Colin Trevorrow who is a male director as he directed a the movie Jurassic world.

I learned many other things about directors such as only 6% of directors in the world are female.

What I learnt in my practical lesson

  •  We learned about a director called Simon Ellis who made a short film called 'Soft' which we watched in class.  https://vimeo.com/19705053
  • We learned what crossing the line is which is also known as the 180° rule, which is having your camera remain the same side of an imaginary line which is how the elements of an image is arranged.
  • We learned what white balance is which is removing unrealistic colours before you film or take a picture.
  • We learned what framing is which is arranging elements in a picture to achieve your goal of the image by using the rule of thirds which divides the image into thirds of two vertical lines and two horizontal lines which makes the image better and more pleasing.
  • We learned how to switch on a camera and how to insert an SD card in the correct way and the correct place to put it.
We also learned about the different shots there are.

For example-

  1. Extreme wide shot
  2. Mid shot
  3. Close up
  4. Point of view shot
  5. Wide shot
And many other shots that are used when filming.
